Programs & Services
The Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association (LTRA) is committed to providing transformative therapeutic riding & equine-facilitated wellness programs that empower individuals living with disabilities and to those facing barriers experiencing the benefits of equine-involved services. Our primary offerings include:
Therapeutic Riding: We deliver hundreds of therapeutic riding classes annually, designed to improve physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being for our participants. These classes cater to individuals with diverse disabilities, promoting independence and confidence through personalized equine interactions.
Equine-Facilitated Wellness Programs: LTRA offers a variety of equine wellness projects tailored to specialized populations, including foster children, women in shelter settings, and individuals with disabilities who benefitted from non-mounted programming such as our expressive arts workshops. These programs harness the unique healing power of horses to facilitate personal growth, communication, and emotional healing.
Inclusive Summer Camp Programming: Our summer camps provide an enriching and supportive environment for children of all abilities, including a dedicated week offered at no cost to newly arrived Ukrainian children. These camps focus on fostering social skills, teamwork, and self-esteem through fun and engaging activities centered around horses.
Riding Lessons: True to our commitment to offer empowering and accessible services, these classes are inclusive and welcoming to all aged 8+. Designed as skill-building offering, they are ideal for anyone able to ride independently and participate in a group setting. Whether you're exploring the equestrian world or looking to polish your riding skills, our classes are tailored for diverse abilities and needs. If you're uncertain about the suitability or fit, our team is here to guide you in choosing the service that best aligns with your aspirations. For participants with aids or supports, your support person is warmly invited to attend the class alongside you.
Peer-to-Peer Programming: In collaboration with local youth from a 4-H club, we offer peer-to-peer programs that build leadership and social skills among young participants, fostering community engagement and personal development.
Senior Support Programs: In 2023, we supported over 180 seniors across Southern Alberta's age care facilities. Our programs aim to enhance the quality of life for seniors through therapeutic horse interactions that encourage physical activity and mental stimulation.
Subsidy Program: To ensure that financial constraints do not hinder access to our services, LTRA has launched a subsidy program that provides financial assistance to individuals and families in need. This initiative underscores our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all who can benefit from our programs. This initiative is supported by a grant awarded through the Government of Alberta's 'Every Kid Can Play" funding.
Through these diverse programs, LTRA continues to make a significant impact in the lives of those we serve, promoting resilience, inclusion, and well-being in our community.
