Where does our funding comes from?
The Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association (LTRA) is a registered Canadian charity (CRA Charity Registration No. 107623076RR0001) dedicated to improving quality of life through therapeutic riding and equine-facilitated wellness programs. Where Does Our Funding Come From?
Our funding comes from various sources, including:
Annual fundraising events
Tax-deductible donations and bequests
The Joanne Perlich Endowment Fund & others
Various grants
Fee-for-Service riding camps and clinics, & horse boarding
Importance of Donations
Whether it is a private gift, a final bequest, the beneficiary of an insurance policy, or a corporate donation, all contributions above $20.00 are tax-deductible and serve to strengthen the viability of our programs. Your support ensures we can continue offering therapeutic riding and equine wellness programs to the Southern Alberta community.
How are Donations Used
LTRA is a facility-based organization that owns and operates its own site, delivering programming year-round. This model carries significant fixed and ongoing costs. Our therapy horses require daily care 365 days a year, including feed, veterinary and farrier services, and appropriate shelter. Maintaining barns, arenas, fencing, equipment, and accessible infrastructure is essential to ensuring safety, program quality, and continuity of service. These costs are largely inelastic and cannot be reduced without impacting horse welfare or rider safety.
In 2026, LTRA will celebrate its 50th anniversary — an incredible milestone made possible by decades of community support. This anniversary invites celebration and underscores the responsibility to ensure the organization is positioned to serve the community for the next 50 years. Continued investment in infrastructure, equipment, and capital improvements is essential. These investments support safe, accessible, and sustainable year-round programming and allow LTRA to meet the evolving needs of riders, families, and community partners.
LTRA’s annual operating needs are supported through a combination of program fees, grants, and community fundraising, with a fundraising target of approximately $400,000 each year. Community generosity also enables LTRA to offer subsidies and sliding-scale support, ensuring that no rider is unable to access therapeutic services due to affordability. Donations help bridge the gap between the true cost of delivering high-quality, facility-based programs and what participants are able to pay.
