Meet Astrid, the newest, youngest —and shortest—member of LTRA’s therapeutic herd! This beautiful Norwegian Fjord joined our team on July 20, 2026, at just six years old. Her name couldn’t be more fitting: Astrid is a traditional Scandinavian name with Old Norse roots meaning beautiful or beloved by the gods. Despite her young age, Astrid is one of those rare “born broke” horses who seems to have come into the world knowing how to take care of her people. Gentle to her core, quiet, sensible and remarkably patient, she settled into life at LTRA almost immediately and has already been put to work in both our Therapeutic Riding and Inclusive Summer Camp programming. Her biggest complaint from riders so far? Astrid firmly believes that walking past perfectly good green grass without stopping for a snack is an unreasonable expectation. And her career is only getting started! This fall, Astrid will be heading for cart training, adding another skill to her résumé and preparing to help take some of the workload from our other beloved Fjord, Joseph, as he approaches a well-earned retirement. At only six years old, Astrid has an exciting future ahead of her—and if her first few months are any indication, we think this sweet young lady is going to be a very special part of LTRA for many years to come.
